Lin’s Fans Shoot Knicks’ Online Presence Skyward #Linsanity

As the Knicks prepare to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight, one of the side effects of the new-found popularity of their player Jeremy Lin is the skyrocketing web traffic to their team site. Compared to the last two weeks of January, visitors to NY Knicks.com and KnicksNow.com have increased by 770 percent since Feb. 4, with more than 13.4 million page views. Unique visits to the sites rose by 531 percent and video views increased more than 2,000 percent during the same time period.

The Knicks’ social media presence also got a boost. About 500,000 more people liked the Knicks in the last two weeks, bringing the team’s Facebook fans to almost 2 million. Their 2-week Facebook activity ranks in the top five most active sports teams worldwide. They also added 35,000 Twitter followers.

“The Knicks recent on court success has left passionate Knicks fans, sports enthusiasts and even non-sports fans clamoring for up-to-the-minute information and news on the team and Jeremy Lin,” Scott O’Neil, president, MSG Sports said in a press release received by NY Convergence. “The incredible demand has led to record numbers for our online platforms, where we have built what we feel is the best combination of digital assets in sports that provide unrivaled content with exclusive insight and behind-the-scenes access to the Knicks like nowhere else.”

All of that passion has been profitable, too. Sales of Lin-related merchandise on NYKnicksStore.com has increased by 4,000 percent. The site features about 50 Lin items—including jerseys, hats and other collectables.
