NY’s chief digital officer Rachel Sterne, along with Mayor Bloomberg, have created the Road Map for the Digital City.
Split into four strategic categories, the road map focuses on: Access to Technology, Open Government, Engagement and Industry.
Access has been strengthened by providing Wi-Fi in public parks and spaces all over the city. There are also plans to deliver broadband to high needs individuals.
To increase open government, NYC Digital created an OpenData API platform, allowing access to data produced by city agencies. Nine useful apps were created for New Yorkers.
At hackathons, developers imagined the future of how the city can engage with the public through its website and social media channels.
Fortifying the industry sector, NYC Digital also created partnerships to serve the public with Bitly, Buddy Media, Facebook, Foursquare, General Assembly, Google, Tumblr and Twitter.
