Thirteen.org‘s Metrofocus blog took a look at a new trend, bars that offer WiFi and are home to freelance workers. NY has more than 100,000 freelancers who look for a place to work to get out of the house. The blog acknowledges that freelancers tend to make cafes their home during the day, but “some of us need something a little stronger than espresso to get it all done before deadline. Thus the Bar + Office =Boffice.”
One such “Boffice” is Epistrophy on Mott Street, which allows workers in before 5PM, but wants drinkers after that. Slainte Pub in the East Village has cozy booths in the back for those who want to work. The bar downstairs at The City Tavern attracts students from NYU and The New School, so “come with a fully charged computer.” A list of many more bars that like freelancers can be found at the link below.
