Long Island-based Cablevision announced this week that they have upgraded Optimum Lightpath, which is the company business services product. The upgrade is that its managed video offering now supports a 1.485 gigabit per second uncompressed HD video over a dedicated fiber-optic wavelength. With over 4,700 route miles of fiber across the NY metropo area, the upgrade is targeted towards media production companies, broadcasters and television stations who want to bring high quality live events to local destinations.
According to Multichannel News, the delivery of the video transport will be more efficient and less jittery compared to satellite and other competing technologies. Julia McGrath, VP of marketing and biz dev, said to Multichannel that, “With this latest update to our Managed Video, we can now support the delivery of uncompressed HD video content with the same speed and reliability that Optimum Lightpath’s media and entertainment customers have come to expect.”
