Analyst Says Cablevision is Being Coy About SVOD

Media tech analyst Richard Greenfield doesn’t believe that Long Island’s Cablevision is being upfront about plans to launch a subscription video-on-demand service.  In a BTIG Research blog post, he wrote that the cable company would likely launch a service similar to Comcast’s Streampix within the year.

Cablevison’s CEO Jim Dolan never said anything about SVOD during a recent earnings report that revealed the company added 41,800 high-speed data subscriptions in Q2. But Greenfield maintains that Cablevision is anxious about an upcoming Verizon/Redbox joint venture due to launch in beta this summer.

“We want to understand how much capital Cablevision is planning on spending on the project and how it will be marketed to consumers,” Greenfield wrote.
