At the Cable Show this week, Long Island-based cable carrier Cablevision demoed a new app with HTML5 and JavaScript technologies that runs on Internet-connected TVs and Samsung electronics. The app, according to Multichannel News, provides full access to live TV and an on-screen guide without any set-top unit necessary.
The app uses the same interface as the one company released earlier this year, Optimum App for Laptop, which gives users access to live TV guide listings on PCs and Macs. Sam Chang, general manager of LG’s Innovation Development Group, told Multichannel that the Cablevision app, “uses common Web technologies to deliver a new user interface, full EPG [electronic program guide] and secure streaming of live linear TV to the LG Smart TV, needing only a single authorized cable modem.”
Cablevision customers in NY currently have footprint access to live TV apps for PCs, Macs, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. This access is available to those who have a Cablevision supplied modem and with a subscription to iO TV.
