NY Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and six other U.S. senators have joined Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal’s resolution against the adult-section of the online classifieds site Backpage.com, owned by Village Voice Media. The proposal becomes the latest volley against the classified section, which is sued by many to promote women in the illegal sex trafficking trade.

The eight page proposal includes statistical data showing evidence of sex-trafficking and child exploitation, as well as a list of criminal convictions that have already occurred regarding people advertising on the site.

According to Capital New York, the opposition says that shutting down the section will simply move the trafficking underground, making it harder to track and take action against it.
