Steps to Ensure That Online Purchases are Secure on #FathersDay

Credit card

Julia Goloshubina, manager of privacy measures for Voxocon international calling provider) made a list for Chron.com of the four ways to ensure safe transactions on Father’s Day. As more and more people buy gifts online, it becomes more pertinent to take the proper steps when making online purchases. Here are the rules that Goloshubina recommends to those buying Father’s Day gifts online:

  • Make sure that the online retailer you go through is Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliant. If it isn’t, your credit card information may not be protected
  • When processing payment, make sure the credit card information you entered is cleared from all form entries. If you computer is stolen or used by someone else, this information could be stolen
  • Make sure you are making a secure transaction by looking in the address bar. Retailers must go through a strict process to get SSL certified
  • To make sure that retailers are properly storing your password, contact customer support to check. The most secure way to store a password is in the form of one-way hashes, but there is no way to check this information up-front
