Metro reported today that there has been a rise in iPod and iPad thefts on subways and buses. This had led the MTA to launch a new campaign, called “Safeguard Your Stuff,” aimed at making sure riders keep a close eye on their electronics. The posters will be put up in subway stations immediately, and read, “Don’t be a target of opportunity!” The poster also features a cartoon of a thief stealing a smartphone.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told Metro that, “Enforcement and public awareness are both critical to combating thefts of iPhones and other electronic devices on the subway.” The posters will have the message printed in 12 other languages, and caution riders to be especially aware when sitting near subway doors.
