The MTA has launched a new app, called MTA EZTravel, that lets users check traffic on MTA bridges and tunnels from their smartphones. According to the New York Post, the app uses real-time data to show how many minutes it will take to cross each of the seven bridges and the two tunnels. The information used to determine the time for cars to cross comes from EZ Pass data, which is updated every five minutes. The app also lets users find out how long it would take to get to nearby places from whichever tunnel or bridge they select.

Tariq Habib, MTA Bridges and Tunnel division chief technology officer, told the Post that “We plan to keep adding popular destinations, so we can give motorists the most useful, real-time information possible.”

The app is available for free at either the Apple Store or at MTA.info. MTA made it a point to tell drivers not to use the app while driving. An Android version is in progress.
