This week NY state could announce the passing of a measure to crack down on cyber bullying in schools and through social media. Though more than 30 states, including NY, already have some laws targeting cyber harassment and stalking, this new measure will differ greatly, as according to the Associated Press, this measure specifically mentions abuse over the Internet, which can make enforcement easier.
NY Sen. Stephen Saland told n AP reporter that he pushed his part of the cyber bullying package because fear and abuse has impeded educational instruction. The current bill stresses prevention and awareness, particularly in schools. It also requires reporting and provides immunity from civil lawsuits for “good-faith” reporting of cyber bullying.
