Majora Carter, founder of Sustainable South Bronx, and her two business partners plan to open a startup incubator and tech education center in Hunts Point section of The Bronx. The future nonprofit Startup Box: South Bronx will give entrepreneurs a shared office space and give high school students technology based classes and programs.
According to the Daily News, last year the Bloomberg administration opened the Sunshine Bronx Business Incubator in Hunts Point, but still the majority of startups and techies are located in Manhattan. In order to bring entrepreneurs uptown, the Startup Box plans to offer support and mentors from the top of the tech industry.
Currently Carter and tech educators Lyel Resner and Jon Santiago are looking for a location and are talking with several established tech companies about funding the project.
