The New York Public Library, with the help of a 2010 grant from the National Endowment, is set to digitize its entire collection of historical NY maps. The project will georectify maps – align them with their modern virtual equivalents, which will be cropped and digitized.
When complete, according to BetaBeat, the final project will allow users, through mobile location technology, to see what was present in their position at any given historical date.
