NY-based Songza launched their iPad app last week and since then has reached more than 1.15 million downloads. Songza is a music curator and streaming service available on iPhone, Android, web apps, and now iPad. Though they did not release numbers pre-iPad launch, founder Elias Roman told TechCrunch that the web was previously their most trafficked platform.
Unlike Pandora’s algorithms or Spotify’s free for all music streaming, Songza gives users curated playlists (their Concierge feature) based on time of day, location, mood, or activity. According to TechCrunch, this is a “testament to how startups can disrupt crowded spaces as long as the core idea is solving the problem differently.”
