NY Startup Be In is suing Google for allegedly ripping off their CamUp video chat site with the creation of Google Hangouts. According to Be In, Google engineers visted Be In’s booth at SXSW in 2011 and then met with the company soon after. The two companies discussed a potential partnership, inclduing a “Watch with your Friends” button on YouTube that would be powered by Be In.
According to Business Insider, Be In then noted a spike in user traffic to the CamUp site from Mountain View, CA – where Google’s headquarters is located. One month later Google released Google+ with Hangouts and the “Watch with your Friends” button. Business Insider reached out to Google for a comment, but did not receive a response.
