As soon as next week, Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be unveiling the NYPD’s new all-seeing “Domain Awareness System.” The new program, developed with Microsoft, combines city-wide video surveillance and law enforcement databases with the goal to track both criminals and potential terrorists. According to Huffington Post, the NYPD has been under fire for surveillance of Muslim communities, following the attacks of September 11th. However, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says these policies are to thank for thwarting 14 terror plots against the city over the last 11 years.
