The city of Yonkers is trying to make some extra profits by auctioning off city-owned cars using eBay. According to lohud.com, Mayor Mike Spano announced at a news conference recently that the town will be launching a YonkersCARStore.com page on eBay, where bidders can go for items from former police SUVs to an umbrella. Spano said, “Anything that attracts a dollar, we’re just going to sell it all. We’re not going to sell City Hall.”

The mayor believes that selling these cars and other items the city no longer uses would benefit Yonkers taxpayers. One item up for sale includes the former police commissioner’s SUV, a gold Lincoln Navigator with tinted windows and chrome rims, and begins at $25,000. The starting bid for most of the other vehicles is about $500. Yonker’s fleet contains about 1,100 vehicles, and includes firetrucks and police patrol cars. All take-home cars will now bear the city’s seal and official license plates so that drivers are dissuaded from using them for personal business.
