The Aperture Foundation, a NY based photography publisher, has released its first ever iPad app and chose Merce Cunningham as its subject. The avant-garde dancer and choreographer used film throughout his long career, exploring dance with animation and motion-capture technology.
It took more than two years to create Merce Cunningham: 65 Years. Aperture’s editor-in-chief Melissa Harris worked with 12 other people, including Cunningham biographer David Vaughn. In addition to his writings, the app contains a film of Cunningham dancing with Martha Graham and a dance film made in collaboration with John Cage for the BBC, called Points in Space.
