While several parks in affluent sections of Northern Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan have free WiFi, large swaths of Southern Brooklyn have none. In a letter to NY Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Assemblyman William Colton (D-Brooklyn) wrote that Brooklyn citizens feel “stranded,” adding, “We pay our taxes like everybody else, and we are entitled to the same level of services just like everybody else.”
The Parks Dept. replied that it is currently installing free WiFi on Coney Island’s boardwalk and MCU Park. There are also plans for Manhattan Beach, the Nature Center at Marine Park and possibly at Owl’s Head Park in Bay Ridge.
