Recently, the New York Tech Meetup (NYTM) and Change the Ratio hosted a Women’s Demo night at Facebook’s Midtown offices. Jessica Lawrence, managing director for NYTM, told BetaBeat that she has had a difficult time getting female-founded companies to apply to demo. The end goal of these Women’s Demo nights is to get to a point where Women’s Demo Night is not necessary, because they all demo at NYTM anyway.
Some of the demos were Upswing.me., a platform designed to connect black and ethnic women with hair stylists specializing in curly hair, Continuum Fashion, a combination design lab and fashion label that uses 3D and advanced digital printing technology to change the way consumers approach apparel, and Clear Health Costs, a startup dedicated to increasing the transparency of the healthcare industry.
