NY-based Tout’d has created a food and shopping app that friends recommend, rather than strangers. This month the company raised $1.4 million in a seed round led by Warner Hills Angels. Arron Kallenberg, TechStars alum, along with Rob Morelli and Saro Cutri, former Wall Streeters, founded Tout’d. The three plan to use the funding to “revamp their platform and grow their technical team,” according o Xconomy.
The Tout’d current platform lets participants ask questions to their extended social network of Facebook friends about stores, restaurants, trip destinations and general questions. It resembles sites like Quora or Answer.com, but with answers from a more personal community. The company’s goal is to be different by focusing on opinions from within the users’ social connections. Morelli told Xconomy that, “The motivation for coming to our site is about helping friends. We also allow you to post the question to Facebook. We think the content generated on our platform is higher quality and more actionable than the responses on other sites.”
With the funding, Tout’d plans to redesign its website and begin working on a mobile app due out in the next few months, and hire at least one more developer.
