Residents of the Bronx say that their security is being ignored. According to the NY Daily News, 492 locations in the city are equipped with camera boxes, and there are two NYPD cameras in each box. Currently, Manhattan has 177 boxes, Brooklyn has 153, Queens has 77, the Bronx has 43, and Staten Island has 42. The Bronx, though it has the second fewest cameras, has the highest number of crimes per person in the whole city. There are plans to install another 320 boxes. Police say that the Argus cameras, are installed based on crime reports and counterterror concerns.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said, “Those locations that have experienced a significant amount of violent crime are given top consideration.” Officials have often stated that the surveillance cameras are important for crime-solving.
