Steve Schlafman of Lerer Ventures put together a Beginner’s Guide to the NYC Tech Scene. It’s a 99-page who’s who of angels, innovators, funders and founders. It even lists the hot venues to meet and eat.
Some interesting takeaways include: total NY VC funding rose 41 percent from 2010 to 2011. The high point was Q3 of 2011, where $831 million was invested in 86 deals. This year, more deals are getting funded with less overall money. During the first two quarters of 2012, a total of 164 deals were funded for $836 million. Most of the funding is seed or Series A deals.
