To reduce “human error” the city Board of Elections will implement a new system for counting primary ballots that involves computer technology. According to the NY Post, poll workers currently add up results by hand from voting machines and then re-transmit the data to cops, which is entered a second time. The new system will involve using memory sticks from the machines that will then be transmitted to the central board, and though the process will still be slow, the goal is to obtain more accuracy. Poll workers will still use the old counting method, but only as a backup.
