Singularity, a Brooklyn-based bookstore, pulls obscure science fiction out of the past and back into circulation. Each month, the store chooses an out-of-print novel and scans it into an e-book. Recently rescued books include A Plunge into Space by Robert Cromie, originally published in 1890 and the 1948 work, The Torch by Jack Bechdolt.

While not well known, Cromie’s book was a significant development in early science fiction. The Torch, according to co-founder Ash Kalb, is worth reading because it’s a fantastic adventure set in post apocalyptic New York.
