Looking south from Top of the Rock

Newly forming tech centers are springing out of suburban environments and moving to cities like NY, who is home to more than 500 startups. According to author Richard Florida, cities like NY attract young people because urban areas offer flexibility with apartments, public transit and lots of social venues.

Another reason for the switch to cities is the changing technology. Now more nimble teams work on cloud-based applications. Plus, most of the end users– business, finance, legal and media companies–are right around the corner. Kickstarter and Tumblr are just two of many startup companies that have made NY their home.
