A sold out audience of more than 800 people filled NYU’s Skirball Auditorium for the New York Tech Meetup recently. A number of new tech startups had 3-5 minutes to showcase their companies and to dazzle the NY tech community. The meetup was also seen by hundreds of people watching a live stream from New Work City, which was courtesy of NYTM’s new sponsor, Major League Baseball Advanced Media. Some of the stand out presenters from the event included:
- ClearHealthCosts.com– created by former New York Times writer Jeanne Pinder, uses crowd-sourcing and other methods to reveal truths about healthcare provider costs.
- Brewster– founded by Steve Greenhouse, seeks to organize disparate address books and social contacts into a single, searchable and visual database on your iPhone.
- Movable Ink– the startup showcased an app that lets you grab rich media content from anywhere on the web, convert it to HTML and insert it easily into the body of an email.
- VoiceBunny– a platform that uses crowd-sourcing and an algorithm to help anyone find the right-person to record and deliver a voice-over.
