The job of social media manager is climbing the executive world. For example, Nilay Shah is the 28-year-old social media manager for the New York Giants football team, and uses his tech-savvy to help connect the team brand to its customers and fans. According to Adweek, since Shah works for the team itself, he has the insider connections that separates him from other media, like journalists.
Before games, Shah takes his seat in the MetLife Stadium press box, and proceeds to tweet information that can not be viewed on TV. The Giants’ 327,000 Twitter followers readily consume this information. Shah began as the Giants’ social media manager in 2007, right when Facebook was beginning to emerge as an internet giant, and right before Twitter was launched.
The Giants team has contracts with Buddy Media for Facebook management, and Mass Relevance for curating tweets.
