As tech firms become more prevalent in NY, a California-like casual culture is also taking hold. According to Sean Carroll, a spokesperson for the executive search firm Polachi, tech companies attract nontraditional employees.

Company outings are also different than ones held by finance and law firms. Recently, employees from the online retailer Warby Parker hosted a beer-pong tournament and dance-off at the Greenwich Village Country Club near Union Square. Suited Morgan Stanley employees were at the same venue for a different event. According to The Wall Street Journal, there was little interaction between the suits and the techies, at least one of whom was dressed in a sparkly headband and hot pink spandex.
