Uber is the latest taxi-hailing smartphone app to run into regulatory confusion. The app allows cab drivers and passengers to find one another. But the San Francisco-based app may not be legal in NY. Taxi regulations do not allow yellow cabs to make prearranged rides, nor can drivers use electronic devices.
When a driver agrees to pick up an Uber passenger, they aren’t allowed to pick up other fares, which the Taxi and Limousine Commission could consider an unjustified refusal of fares. David Yassky, TLC chairman, said in a statement that NY has “led the country in terms of putting new technology to work for riders” and they were currently requesting proposals for smartphone apps.

Where do you find these fools who sit on the taxi and limo commission. One would think their objective would be to assist in getting passengers picked up and moved around. The problem is that many of these fools on the commission are probably as old as the laws that were written. Get rid of both of them!
