In a recent blog post by Dana McMahan, she talks about internet addiction and how in order to get out of the technology loop, she took a 5 day trip – unplugged. No Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, text… nothing. Though she feared her addiction would get the better of her, she actually ended up forgetting about her digitally connected world, and enjoyed it. As time continued, she found herself more in the present, and thinking less about how each action could be turned into a status update. She concludes by saying she could never leave social media for good, but she does plan to continue these “put down the phone and revel in where I am” moments, and she encourages everyone else to do the same.
