September 5, 2012 would have been John Cage’s 100th birthday. Developer Jack Freudenheim along with Larson Associates developed the John Cage Piano app in time for the composer’s centennial anniversary.
Cage died in 1992. He created the ‘prepared piano’– a piano with objects placed between the strings. It gave the music a new sound, almost like a percussion instrument. The one dollar app features all 36 prepared notes. Users can create and save pieces and make ringtones. A free version has nine sampled notes. Both versions allow users to record performances and share via Twitter, Facebook or email.
