FreshDirect is hiring and wants Bronx residents to apply. The online grocer is moving from its Queens location to Mott Haven and wants local residents to apply for 200 new positions. Earlier this year the company chose the Bronx location over NJ after the city and state gave it $127 million in subsidies. Not all Bronx residents are happy it. Activists including South Bronx Unite say delivery trucks will further pollute an area that has one of the nation’s highest asthma rates. But a FreshDirect spokesperson said the company is moving toward a green fleet of electric and natural gas vehicles over the next five year.
