The MTA is instituting a new way for straphangers to comment on proposed fare hikes. Instead of attending public hearings, riders can comment directly into video cameras set up at four locations around the city. Transcripts and footage from the “video conference hearings” will be sent to MTA board members for review. Earlier this week the authority proposed four versions of fare hikes—including two that raise the base fare to $2.50 a ride. The board votes on the fares and the final budget in December.
