NJ based Unglue.it is a crowdfunding website devoted to buying the rights to out-of-print books. When enough funds have accumulated, the money is transferred to the rights holders and Unglue.it releases a free digital edition of the book. The site “unglues” books with a creative commons license which allows free access to the book worldwide.
This summer, they raised more than $7,000 for the rights to a long out-of-print book, Oral Literature in Africa. The book has a chance to live and breathe again, said Unglue.it librarian and blogger Andromedia Yelton.
