The Electronic Frontier Foundation urged a federal appeals court last week to throw out broadcasters’ case against Aereo, the streaming TV company from NY-based Internet conglomerate IAC. According to CNET, Mitch Stoltz, EFF staff attorney, said Aereo’s streaming service does not violate copyright. Instead, it’s private use not covered by the law. “This is just a craven attempt by TV executives to profit from technology that they didn’t think of first,” Stoltz said in a statement.
Aereo won an earlier suit brought by networks including ABC, Fox, Univision, Disney, CBS and NBC, but the broadcasters are appealing the decision.
