Simon & Schuster entered the self-publishing market with the launch of Archway, a new service focused on printing and retail distribution. PaidContent reports that Archway acts like a concierge—a publishing guide that coordinates every step of the publishing process. Its fiction publishing package ranges from $2,000 to $15,000 and provides ebook distribution, access to a speakers bureau and inclusion in the Edelweiss booksellers catalog. Archway doesn’t have an ebook-only option, but may add one later. Simon & Schuster isn’t expected to staff the new business. Author Solutions, an independent business owned by Penguin, will perform the services. NY-based Simon & Schuster says it will monitor the sales of Archway titles and possibly sign up promising authors for traditional publishing deals.
