Many businesses in Lower Manhattan are still struggling from Hurricane Sandy because of down Verizon landlines, according to Crains. A storm surge during Sandy flooded Verizon’s central offices on West and Broad streets in NY and many businesses have not been restored their Verizon phone service. Restaurants are unable to take reservations and other businesses appear closed, even when they’re open. A Verizon representative informed a spokeswoman for Financier Patisserie on Cedar Street that their phone service would be restored until December 1.
“Business is down so dramatically, I don’t know if it’s because [of the phones] or because it’s down,” said a spokeswoman for Harry’s Café and the Financier Patisserie on Stone Street, both of which use Verizon landlines and remain without phone service.
