Technology writer Dan Frommer created the iPhone app NYC Holiday Guide as a pilot project for his startup, City Notes. According to The New York Times, the app follows a “less is more” philosophy and features 20 locations, most with a holiday theme. Among the featured venues are the Plaza Food Hall at Fifth Avenue and Central Park South and Brooklyn’s Court Street Grocers in Carroll Gardens. But the Breslin Bar Dining room is included because “they do winter food well.” A free January update turns the app into a general NY guide. Going forward, content will vary according to the season.

Frommer, who has no relation to the Frommer travel guide, plans on creating similar guides for the top 100 worldwide tourist destinations.
