Manhattan Community Board 8 approved plans for the proposed $2 billion Roosevelt Island Cornell Tech campus. Last week’s near-unanimous vote signaled the first hurdle cleared by the tech campus. The next steps are review and approval by the Manhattan Borough President, the City Planning Commission and City Council. Crain’s New York Business reported that a spokesperson for the school said the process could be completed by the end of May.
The board requested that Cornell consider moving construction materials via barge to reduce potential air quality and traffic problems. Cornell also said that it would not cut down trees along the riverfront promenade or erect barriers to pars and open space.
