Visual Revenue, a NY-based data analytics firm, provides real-time information management for news organizations including Forbes and the New York Daily News. According to Crain’s New York Business, it offers a new generation of data analytics — one that journalists fear might someday replace them. Founder and owner Dennis Mortenson said the goal is providing editorial support, not substitution.
Visual Revenue analyzes the large amounts of content that media companies produce and offers insights based on data crunching. It recommends where stories and ads should appear on a home page, makes headline suggestions and offers other ways to generate traffic and optimize results. Paul Cross, media analytics manager at the New York Daily News told Crain’s, “It does a good job of projecting what will happen throughout the day.”
