Nick Denton’s Gawker Media has acquired Guanabee, a Hispanic site founded by Daniel Mauser. The purchase is designed to increase the media empire’s Latin American presence. According to Business Insider, Denton wants to take international revenues from 5 percent to 20 percent of the company’s total within the next five years.
Gawker is also expanding in Hungary and India. One-third of Gawker traffic is international. Denton told Business Insider, “We see quite a bit of growth coming from international—I’d expect it would quadruple as proportion of total.”
