The popular community bookstore Word Up just received an extension on their Indiegogo campaign. As of Thursday, the store needed $10,000 toward its $60,000 goal. According to the New York Daily News, the money will go to giving the Washington Heights bookstore a new location. It’s been searching for a new space since its eviction from their Broadway and 175th location this summer. More than just a bookstore, it also served as a performance venue for local artists, a gallery space and meeting place for local writers, artists and neighborhood residents. Pulitzer-prize winning author Junot Diaz made a video supporting the store, saying, “For me, it’s a space that I have loved since it’s opened up…I want anybody out there who can support to please kick money towards them.”
