NY public media flagship WNET and Teacher’s College at Columbia University received a two-year grant from the National Science Foundation to develop mobile games that teach children fractions. The apps will use stories and characters from Cyberchase, WNET’s Emmy-winning TV series and multimedia project. It will also incorporate Teacher College’s research on embodied cognition theory and gesture-based simulation games.

The M3 project—for mobile, movement and math—will be tested by third, fourth and fifth graders at Teacher College’s Harlem Ivy afterschool program. The apps will be used to study how children learn from new technology. Eventually they may be publicly available for downloading.
