Art is coming to a taxi near you. The New York Times reports that starting on Wednesday through Feb. 5, about 3,000 taxis will run a video by artist Ryan McGinley. The 30-second clip features his friend Jessica Tang skipping barefoot along NY streets wearing only a gold wig and blue T-shirt. The segment is taken from McGinley’s work for the Icelandic band Sigur Ros, where the girl possesses magical powers and leaves a trail of stardust behind her. Its inclusion in the mix of news and promo material on Taxi TV is due to the nonprofit Art Production Fund. Co-founder Yvonne Force Villareal told The Times that she and her partner Doreen Remen spend a lot of time in cabs and wished Taxi TV had more compelling content, adding, “This seemed like a perfect fit.”
