Yelp is adding NY Department of Health and Mental Hygiene restaurant letter grades to its site. The A, B, C, fail or pending grades will go live on the site within weeks. Customers will also be able to see a restaurant’s inspection history on Yelp without having to go to the Health Dept. site. Restaurant owners aren’t in favor of the move. Jeffrey Bank, CEO of the Alicart Restaurant Group (which owns Carmine’s and Virgil’s Real Barbecue), told the New York Post that restaurants could fail an inspection but still post an A while waiting for a tribunal. Others could be fighting to change a B to an A. “It’s not as simple as A, B, C,” he told the Post.
