NY City residents now have an option for television other than an antenna or a provider. A new service called Aereo allows users two watch live broadcast television over the internet.
The service works with a broadcast station sending a signal through the air, an antenna interpreting it, and then the data being transferred from the antenna to a screen. The catch is the screen doesn’t have to be a television. It can be a smartphone or tablet. Access is $8 a month and also allows recording of TV shows, although it doesn’t offer the same range of channels as other cable packages.
Multiple companies are suing Aereo and although they have not yet succeeded they are appealing in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.
