In December, the New York City Economic Development Corporation received over 100 submissions to their ConnectNYC Fiber Challenge program in which they give small and medium-sized businesses free fiber internet infrastructure. According to NYCEDC, applicants in this round reflected the diversity of NY businesses including technology companies, incubators, arts, and nonprofit companies from all five boroughs.

Finalists were chosen based on potential impact of fiber connectivity on the applicant’s business and that of neighboring businesses and were approved by City representatives including NYC’s Chief Digital Officer, Stanley Shore.

Winners will be announced this spring and ConnectNYC plans to launch another phase of the challenge soon.
