With the rise of new fund-raising websites, such as Gofundme.com and Gogetfunding.com,  thousands of NYers are turning towards the Internet to find money, according to AMNY.

Jack Weinstein, a street musician on NY’s Lower East Side, posted a request for cash for his medical bills after being assaulted in a subway station. He found that strangers on Gofundme.com, were willing to donate what the health insurance wouldn’t cover and more.

Users can request money for vacations, training, legal bills, pets, internships, and adoptions. These requests are also being made on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Ted Hart, CEO of CAFAmerica, however,  warns those who donate to only give money if they know the person in order to avoid being scammed.
