Starting today NYers will be able to take part in a ride-sharing startup called SideCar. The app matches drives and passengers who are heading in the same direction and the passenger pays a “donation” for the ride that is slightly less than a taxi fare.
SideCar, based in San Francisco, said the idea is for regular drivers to make extra money while simultaneously helping those who need a ride. The company does check criminal backgrounds and disqualifies those with felonies. It also offers profiles of drivers and tracks the rides with a GPS.
